Fines Approved For Illegal Fireworks Near American River Parkway

People who use illegal fireworks on the American River Parkway could be subject to fines up to $10,000. The ordinance that was passed last month will go into effect this Thursday, June 24th. The Sacramento County Board Supervisors approved the fine, saying that the American River Parkway is an ecological and recreational asset that must be protected. This was passed to try and curb human-caused fires that have been prevalent in the area. Sacramento Fire Department Captain Keith Wade talked about this threat to CBS 13: “they normally originate near encampments and they’re a problem for the Sacramento Fire Department. The amount of lives and people that are out recreating this area and the potential for them to be injured or killed is there." The area has already seen a handful of fires along the river, an early start into fire season.
