Monterey County Superior Court officials are delaying jury selection in the Kristin Smart murder trial. The decision comes after a health concern surfaced with one of the trial participants. Smart was a Cal Poly student who police say Paul Flores murdered while his father Ruben acted as an accessory. 40 jurors are needed as Paul and Ruben will be tried separately and the selection has been pushed back to next Monday. The opening statements were slated to begin on July 6th, which have also been pushed back one week due to the delay. Approximately 1,500 people were summoned from Monterey County to participate in the jury selection for this case.
