California may turn back to using more fossil fuels in order to avoid blackouts this summer. Legislation signed by Governor Gavin Newsom Thursday was touted as a plan to combat climate change but it would give state agencies the ability to buy energy from non-renewable sources in an emergency. Under the plan, the state would be allowed to buy diesel generators and possibly buy from gas-fired power plants. It's part of an effort to avoid putting a strain on the state's aging electricity grid during hot weather.
