Washburn Fire In Yosemite Now Over 2K Acres, Threatens Historic Sequoias

There is no containment of the Washburn Fire still burning in Yosemite National Park as the fire continues to impact the popular nature destination. Fire officials say the blaze has ripped through more than 2,300 acres since it started last week. Firefighters are dealing with hotter temperatures and very dry conditions. Smoke from the fire is starting to trickle into the Sacramento valley and the Bay Area. The National Weather Service is projecting daytime highs above 100-degrees in the Yosemite Valley today and Tuesday. Officials say a large number of dead and fallen trees are fueling the flames and creating additional safety hazards. Highway 41 at Wawona Road and the Mariposa Grove remains closed. Highways 120 and 140 and all other areas within Yosemite remain open.
