Smart Trial Update: Detectives Testify, Original Recordings Played For Jury

The trial of the father and son charged in connection with the disappearance of Cal Poly student Kristin Smart is still ongoing. A Cal Poly police detective who was one of the first law enforcement officials to interview Paul Flores in 1996 took the stand Wednesday. Audio of that interview was played in court that day that were first recorded in 1996. In the recording, the detective asks Paul how he got to the party and ended up with Kristin that night. Flores made conflicting statements about what happened. While Kristin's body has never been found, she was declared legally dead in 2002. Paul is charged with murdering Smart, and his father Ruben Flores is charged as an accessory for allegedly helping hide the body.
