CA Teacher Defends Hitler As A "Good Leader", Principle Now Apologizing

A school district in San Diego County is reviewing a recent classroom lesson that featured Adolf Hitler as a great world leader. Tabitha Barry, a middle school teacher at Carmel Valley Middle School used a photo of Adolf Hitler among pictures of positive world leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi and the Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King, Junior. The Principal of Carmel Valley Middle, Vicki Kim, is now apologizing to the community.

A student at Carmel Valley confronted the teacher who defended the lesson-- saying that while Hitler had done some bad things, he still had strong leadership qualities. Families contacted the school as well as the Anti-Defamation League about the issue. The San Dieguito Union High School District says the picture of Hitler has been removed from the classroom and the lesson is under review. The district says it plans to have a listening session with the Jewish community and provide anti-Semitism training for staff.
