The deputy who was shot in the face Tuesday night is recovering after surgery and will have at least one more operation. Deputy Alex Ladwig was shot in the jaw with his own service weapon during a fight with a man who he had asked to show a valid light rail ticket at a North Highlands RT station. The man is custody for the shooting has an extensive criminal record including being arrested for connection to a double homicide.
As for Deputy Ladwig, he is now receiving visitors, and one person who has been to see him is his colleague and two-year partner with the Regional Transit Police Services, Steve Fontana. Fontana has also started a Go-Fund-Me account for Alex and his family, which can be found here.
