Susan Skinner said John was a Vietnam-era Air Force veteran and a great American. He was also an airline pilot, and he especially enjoyed his long career with the Flying Tigers Airline. She added that he was also a champion for music education and supported many local community causes. “Johnny Trumpet,” as he jokingly called himself, had fronted bands since teenage days. His website contain several samples of his ballroom and big band sound.
John Skinner is survived by both his wife and his daughter, Kathryn Skinner.
