New York City police have confirmed that they are investigating the apparent suicide of fashion designer Kate Spade.
Police Department Chief of Detectives Dermot Shea said at a news briefing today that the handbag designer's body was discovered by a housekeeper just after 10 a.m.
He said detectives were still in the early stages of the investigation but that all evidence pointed to "a tragic suicide."
According to the New York Post, Spade’s husband, Andy Spade, was at home when her body was found. Their daughter was at school.
Spade wrote a note to her only daughter, 13-year-old Frances Beatrix Spade, whom she referred to as “Bea.”
“Bea – I have always loved you. This is not your fault. Ask Daddy,” the note read in part, according to TMZ.
Spade was 55.
