The California Republican Party is responding to comments made by Governor Gavin Newsom in a POLITCO interview published Monday. The Governor is quoted as saying that nationally the GOP of 2019 reminds him of Republicans in California in the 1990s, when a voter approved law known as the Save Our State initiative established a state-run citizenship screening system. It also prohibited illegal immigrants from using non-emergency health care, public education, and other services in the state. The law was challenged in court and never implemented when the state declined to challenge the court rulings putting it on hold.
Newsom says that today's crop of Republicans are headed for the "waste bin of history" if the continue to follow President Trump and promote divisiveness.
California Republican Party Chair Jessica Patterson offered her reaction to Newsom's prediction in an interview with News 93.1 KFBK news anchor Kitty O'Neal.
