The Community is Invited to Make Sacramento Better With Meeting-in-a-Box

Community Invited to Host Own Discussion About How to Make Sacramento Better through a “Meeting-in-a-Box”

As part of the 2040 General Plan Update process, the City of Sacramento has developed a simple, fun activity that lets community members host their own outreach meetings with friends, family, or neighbors.

Now through September 20, 2019, the City of Sacramento is inviting community members to host their own community meetings with their friends, family or neighbors at their convenience with a “Meeting-in-a-Box”. Meeting-in-a-Box is a tool that allows community members to share their ideas and proposals for the future of the City, because discussions related to the future of Sacramento should not be limited to those organized by City staff, but instead should happen whenever it is meaningful for a group of interested people. The Meeting-in-a-Box is part of a larger outreach strategy that includes, interest-based focus group meetings, online engagement, and nearly 30 city-planned community events, to collect input from Sacramento residents and employees that will inform the Sacramento 2040 General Plan Update.

The City has provided materials for community members to host their own meeting on the project webpage at www.sac2040gpu.org in the Participate tab. Materials include a guidebook, walking community members through the process, an invitation, an agenda, guest list, and a participant feedback form. In addition, the Sacramento 2040 team created a General Plan Update informational video to supplement self-hosted meetings.

“The Meeting-in-a-Box is a great opportunity for the community to participate in shaping the future of Sacramento, engage with their neighbors and offer insights back to the City at their convenience,” says Remi Mendoza, Senior Planner and Project Manager at the City of Sacramento Community Development Department.
