Enjoy an Evening Under the Stars at Carmichael Dinner in the Park

Listen: Sharon Ruffner, President of the Carmichael Parks Foundation, and Bella Bru owner Liz Mishler

The Carmichael Parks Foundation is cooking up some new elements this year with the return of Dinner in the Park on Saturday, September 7 at Sutter Community Garden and Jensen Botanical Gardens. Now in its third year, the event has gained momentum as an experience that brings the community together to dine under the stars in one of Carmichael’s hidden gems for a great cause. New this year,Bella Bru will be catering the family style sit-down dinner and blues-and-rock band, Wasted Space, will headline the evening music performances. Tickets are $125 per person and all proceeds benefit youth scholarships and park beautification projects.

“This event has given us a platform to not only highlight all the amazing offerings Carmichael has but to connect people with specific needs that benefit the youth programs we support,” says Sharon Ruffner, President of the Carmichael Parks Foundation. “In 2018, the Foundation granted 309 scholarships for a total of $18,726.00. This year, we have distributed 140 scholarships to date, and we are on track to distribute $21,000 for 2019!”

Each year, the Carmichael Parks Foundation gets to work organizing and improving on the elements that make this event so unique. Drawing nearly 400 people, the nonprofit arm of the Parks and Recreation Department has improved the parks where the event takes place such as laying new sod and building a foundation for future events on the site that will eventually move towards improvements to the historic Garfield house. A percentage of the dinner’s proceeds are once again designated for both Jensen Botanical Gardens and the Sutter Community Garden. Another upgrade to this years’ event is the addition of four luxury restroom trailers donated by Wilkinson’s Portables in Placerville. The lavatory facilities will feature flush-able toilets and a comfortable setting for attendees seeking relief after indulging in the wine along the trail.

The event begins at 5:00 pm in the upper community garden plots of Sutter Park offering guests wine and bites from local restaurants as they stroll down the olive tree-lined path to discover more other appetizer stations and musical ensembles sprinkled along the way. A seated, family-style dinner will be served in the Jensen Botanical Gardens bringing the farm-to-fork experience to life under the stars. This year’s dinner menu from Bella Bru will feature:

Mediterranean Orzo Pasta Salad (vegan)

Roasted Seasonal Vegetables & Purple Potato Medley (GF)

Sous-Vide Chicken with Sweet Chili Glaze (GF)

House Smoked Tri Tip with Natural Au jus (GF)

Stuffed Portobello’s with Spinach, Artichoke & Quinoa (vegan/GF)

Bella Bru Artisan Rolls & Butter

Dessert:

Post dinner activities will include a live auction with the theme: Park and Adventure Experiences. On the auction list is a fishing trip to Montana with more fun experiences to be announced.
