Listen: Val Heimerich,
Cut Ups of Northern California, is a nonprofit desperately in need of a new location. We must vacate the current location by Aug 30. The president is 97 years old and is worried that the group will have to dissolve, after 30+ years helping the needy in Sacramento, if a new workspace is not found
The current, temporary location is 1817 Del Paso Blvd. The former location was within the Food Bank building at 1051 Bell, and they need a permanent location within a 10-15 mile radius of those areas
- At least 1,400 square feet is needed (for a work area and storage of supplies)
- Rent for $250/month max– but it’s a tax write-off
- Volunteers typically need access at hours between 7am – 4pm, but the volunteers can be flexible in that regard if needed. The workshop does not need to be open to the publi
- The space does not have to be fancy. Needs heat/air and handicap-access bathroom, otherwise they are flexible. As most of the volunteers are senior ladies, a safe location is important, of course.
For 36 years, talented seamstresses, textile artists and other volunteers have created 40,000+ quilts, tote bags, baby blankets, lap robes, scarves, slippers, walker bags and more that are donated to a long list of local charities. Cut-Ups’ projects benefit autistic children, homeless and transitioning families, disabled and aging veterans, single parents, Alzheimer’s patients, children in crisis and more. Charities include:
• Sacramento Children’s Home
• Birth & Beyond Family Resource Centers
• Ralph Richardson Center (Autistic students)
• Veterans Home of California
• Next Move Sacramento (homeless families in transition)
• Sutter Hospital’s Children's Bereavement Art Group
• Norwood Pines Alzheimer’s Care Center
