Front Street Shelter Now Open 7 Days a Week

Listen: Front Street Manager Gina Knepp

Effective Monday, September 16th, 2019, the City of Sacramento Front Street Animal Shelter will offer customers access to the animal shelter 7 days a week.

New hours will be 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., closed on all major holidays.

Front Street Animal Shelter will be the first shelter in our region offering 7 day a week service to the community.

Details:The Front Street Animal Shelter is the City’s open admission municipal shelter, serving the City limits of Sacramento. Front Street serves over 11,000 animals annually. The shelter’s primary focus is pet reunification, getting lost animals back home where they belong. Offering 7 day a week service is intended to decrease an animal’s length of stay, which is ultimately best for the animal, increases pet owner satisfaction and results in cost savings while ensuring adequate space remains for the influx of animals. Average daily intake ranges from 30-60 animals, so getting them out of the shelter quickly also correlates to increased lifesaving. Additional services include adoptions, licensing, micro chipping and greater opportunities for volunteering.
