Listen: Museum Director and Retired Firefighter Ric Dorris
The greater Sacramento area has a rich and storied firefighting history going back to the founding of the Sacramento Fire Department in 1850. In 1990, the Pioneer Mutual Hook and Ladder Society was founded, dedicated to preserving this rich history. For nearly 30 years, the organization has worked hard to acquire and preserve fire department apparatus and memorabilia, all the while searching for a permanent home for the collection.
This year, Pioneer Mutual was finally able to secure a building and begin construction of the Sacramento Regional Fire Museum. We are proud to celebrate the grand opening of the museum on November 2nd from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. The event is free to the public and families are encouraged to attend. There are displays of vintage fire engines and equipment, many old photographs, uniforms, and other memorabilia. Kids can ride on fire engines. More information about the museum can be found at www.sacfiremuseum.org.
