Cabana Park and Deputy Memorial at Old Foothill Farms opens Jan 11

Listen: County Supervisor Susan Peters

This Saturday, January 11, the Grand Opening will occur at 10 am for Cabana Park and its community dog park in Old Foothill Farms increasing the amenities available to the public by the Sunrise Recreation and Park District. That morning in addition we be dedicating the park’s memorial grove and a monument in memory of Sheriff Deputy Robert French, who lost his life in the line of duty in 2017 during an auto theft investigation, which also resulted in non-fatal injuries to two California Highway Patrol Officers.

Deputy French was a 21 year veteran of the Sheriff’s Department and assigned to the North Division which serves most of the Third Supervisorial District including the communities of Arden Arcade, Carmichael, Fair Oaks, Foothill Farms, and North Highlands.

While the park’s opening will be festive for park users and their dogs, we cannot forget that the ability to socialize and play in our parks without fear of harm or violence is made possible by those who serve in law enforcement – and it is only fitting on that morning we recognize the safety afforded to us made by sacrifice of Deputy French.
