Mayor Pro Tem Angelique Ashby & Friends Create Story Time Sacramento

Listen: Mayor Pro Tem Angelique Ashby launches “Story Time Sacramento” for City residents

Ashby has gathered community members to read children;s stories on video.

She's created an online library featuring people from all walks of life reading books.

“This library was inspired by all of the teachers and parents at home doing such amazing work to continue educating Sacramento’s littlest ones,” said Mayor Pro Tem Angelique Ashby. “We know playgrounds are closed and birthdays are difficult. There seem to be endless lists of things that kids cannot dobut there is still so much love in our city, and so many people that want to help teachers and parents. This is our way of coming to your home, through a screen, to tell you we are right here with you, cheering you on and standing in awe of your amazing work. Keep it up moms, dads, siblings, teachers and caretakers. You are making a big difference.”

They are read by people including, Chef Patrick Mulvaney, Chief Daniel Hahn, KFBK's Kitty O'Neal, Mayor Pro Tem Angelique Ashby, voice of the Sacramento Kings Scott Moake, Sac Republic player Sam Werner, Sutter ER Nurse Zac Rucker, Deputy Fire Chief Chad Augustine, ABC 10 reporter Mike Duffy, Sacramento Zoo Director Jason Jacobs, Sacramento Library Director Rivkah Sass, California Black Chamber of Commerce & Grammy award-winning recording artist Jay King,Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency Executive Director LaShelle Dozierand more.

Here's her message:

In the weeks to come we will continue to add more Sacramento friends, reading great stories for kiddos.

This library was inspired by all the teachers and parents at home doing such amazing work to continue educating Sacramento’s littlest ones. We know playgrounds are closed and birthdays are difficult. There seem to be endless lists of things that kids can not do.

But there is still so much love in our city, and so many people that want to help teachers and parents. This is our way of coming to your home, through a screen, to tell you we are right here with you, cheering you on and standing in awe of your amazing work.

Keep it up Moms, Dads, siblings, teachers and caretakers. You are making a big difference.
