\ As the Jones Fire (Nevada County) and Potters Fire (Butte County) threaten nearby residences, the American Red Cross is assisting evacuees at several Temporary Evacuation Points. Jones Fire Three Temporary Evacuation Points have been opened by Nevada County with assistance from Red Cross volunteers: ◼ Ready Springs Elementary School, 10862 Spenceville Road, Penn Valley ◼ Nevada County Fairgrounds, 11228 McCourtney Road, Grass Valley ◼ Cottage High School, 22600 Kingston Lane, Grass Valley Potters Fire ◼ Red Cross volunteers are staffing a Temporary Evacuation Point at the Oroville Church of the Nazarene, 2238 Monte Vista Ave, Oroville Those impacted by these fires can visit a Temporary Evacuation Point for water, snacks and information about Red Cross services. We can also provide hotel lodging assistance as needed, for those who have been forced out of their homes. Depending on the size and scope of a fire, hotel accommodations are being prioritized to ensure social distancing amid the coronavirus pandemic. Residents must check in with the Red Cross at a Temporary Evacuation Site in order to receive assistance.
Donations: At this time, we cannot accept donations of water, clothing or food due to COVID-19 restrictions. Those interested in supporting Red Cross disaster response operations can do so by making a financial contribution at 1-800-REDCROSS or by visiting redcross.org.
Preparedness: • For those in proximity to a wildfire, please be prepared to evacuate in case the fire spreads to your area. Have your disaster kit ready and check with local officials for the latest information about evacuations. Follow these tips to evacuate your home safely. • Key items to include in your kit are personal protective equipment (PPE), prescription medications, extra clothing, pillows, blankets, hygiene supplies and a digital copy of important documents. Do not forget to bring special items for family members who have unique needs or for children, such as diapers, formula and toys. •
