Mayor Sander may be the only Mayor in the entire world with a Ph.D. in Virology -- the study of viruses. He will share his unique perspective as both a scientist and an elected official serving during this unprecedented time in world history.
A graduate of St. Louis University, Sander went on to become aGraduate Fellow at Tulane University School of Medicine where he received the McLeskey Award for excellence in research, and a Ph.D. in Cellular and Molecular Biology.
He put that experience to work in the U.S. Congress developing public policy as a Congressional Science Fellow. After moving to Rancho Cordova, he became an active community volunteer and was elected to the first Rancho Cordova City Council in 2002. Dr. Sander has been re-elected several times and is currently serving as Mayor of Rancho Cordova.
