Sacramento Juneteenth, Inc (SJI) will host the 18th Annual Juneteenth Festival on June 19, 2021 in William Land Park. Juneteenth is the nationally recognized celebration of the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation by President Abraham Lincoln in 1863 - which declared all those enslaved were now freed.
This years theme: Getting serious about our health
To address Black health issues revealed by Covid-19, we've partnered with the Sierra Health Foundation to host a health/wellness forum in our Arts and Education Pavilion. The foru will feature local health professionals addressing; healthcare disparities,Covid-19 long term effects on the Black community, child trauma, myths and falsehoods associated with vaccines and the importance of the Black community getting vaccinated. We'll address mental health, educational system failures related to Covid-19 and provide on-site vaccinations.
Juneteenth will host over 70 food and ware vendors. Several local dignitaries will address attendees confirmed are; Assemblymember Kevin McCarty, Councilmembers Jennings, Valenzuela and Vang - Invited guests include Mayor Steinberg and Secretary of State Shirley Weber.
Live entertainment will be provided by local bands. New this year is the Juneteenth Art Contest. We've partnered with Project 25 Art Gallery to host the contest and display winning exhibits. Winners will be awarded on-site and recognized.
