In the past week police in Chicago and Denver have been alerted to possible mass shooters by housekeepers who found weapons and other items inside of rooms they were cleaning. In Denver it turned out the cache of weapons a housekeeper found was not a mass shooting threat but instead a guns for drugs deal going on. It’s not totally clear what the intention was in the Chicago case. In both cases police were alerted by housekeepers. Law enforcement nationwide say housekeepers are now the first line of defense and since the 2017 mass shooting in Las Vegas, are more likely to report what they see in rooms. In Las Vegas now housekeeping at many hotels have to visit every room everyday even if a guest doesn’t want service. Yet, large chains are limiting housekeeping visits as a result of pandemic cuts.
