Sacramento resident, mom of three and Air Force veteran Nicci Ward has post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) from her time in service, and was recently matched with an expertly trained service dog from Canine Companions free of charge. Nicci attended an intensive Team Training that Canine Companions brought to her in Sacramento because of the pandemic. Nicci was matched with Service Dog Dubs, who is trained in over 40 commands to mitigate her PTSD symptoms.
This is International Assistance Dog Week (Aug 1-7),created to recognize all of the devoted, hardworking assistance dogs helping individuals with disabilities.I have a great story for you to celebrate this special week. National nonprofit Canine Companions places service dogs with adults, children and veterans with disabilities all throughout the country, free of charge.
