About Stephen Siller / the Tunnel to Towers Foundation

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation’s mission is to honor the sacrifice of FDNY Firefighter and father of five Stephen Siller, who laid down his life to save others on September 11, 2001.

Stephen, who was off duty when the first plane hit the North Tower of the World Trade Center, drove to his Brooklyn firehouse and retrieved over 60 pounds of his gear. He then sought the quickest route to lower Manhattan. Finding the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel blocked, Stephen, in a supreme act of heroism, ran about three miles with his gear to the Towers, where he perished.Stephen’s six brothers and sisters, who had raised him after hewas orphaned at age 10, established theTunnel to Towers Foundation in his honor.
