Listen: Emily Baime Michaels, Executive Director of the Midtown Association, and artist Manuel Fernando Rios
Made possible through a $5,000 grant from the Sacramento Region Community Foundation, a $5,000 donation from Sutter Health plus matching contributions from Councilmember Katie Valenzuela and Supervisor Phil Serna, Midtown Parks – a non-profit 501(c)(3) arm of the Midtown Association – recently commissioned a team of local artists to create a vibrant mural and visually exciting backboard wraps for a community basketball court located in Muir Park. Led by artist and curator Manuel Fernando Rios, the dynamic artwork is designed to increase activation and instill community pride while highlighting and preserving the rich Chicano and Latino history that has deep roots in the Alkali Flat/Mansion Flat neighborhood.
