Gov. Newsom Transforming San Quentin State Prison to Rehabilitation Center

It’s one of the most infamous prisons in the United States. It’s been home to the largest death row population anywhere in the country. The hardest of the hard live there. Today Governor Gavin Newsom announced that San Quentin State Prison will be turned into a Scandinavian style rehab center where less-dangerous prisoners will get education, training, and rehab while they can roam free with couches and kitchens. Condemned inmates and the mass murderers will be sent elsewhere. Victims’ rights advocates are angry. But supporters of the move say prisons in other states have been morphed into Scandinavian style rehab centers and it’s working out well.
