GSEC's Barry Broome Says Don't Let What Happened in Oakland Happen in Sacto

Listen: Barry Broome, President and CEO of the Greater Sacramento Economic Council who says

 The city of Sacramento is currently looking to implement a Community Benefits Ordinance (CBA) and this is the exact reason why the Oakland A’s left California.

 

Oakland will lose the following:

 

  • Loss of 6.6M SF of development, 3.3M of which is housing
  • Loss of 6,119 permanent total jobs, 3,623 of which are direct jobs
  • Annual loss of $902 million per year or $7.3 billion over 10 years
  • Loss 3,000 units of housing, 1,000 of which are affordable
  • Loss of 18 acres of new parks
  • Loss of 7,000 union jobs
  • Loss of $38 million in new taxes over 10 years specifically dedicated to public safety, violence prevention and emergency medical services, and homelessness
