ASM. GARCIA JOINS CA STUDENTS, PARENTS AND MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONALS TO RALLY FOR MORE STUDENT MENTAL HEALTH RESOURCES
California’s children are facing a mental health crisis. One-third of California adolescents have experienced serious psychological distress between 2019 and 2021, including a 20% increase in adolescent suicides, and rates of anxiety and depression among California’s children shot up by 70% from 2016 to 2020.
On Wednesday, April 26 at 12.45 p.m., student activists, parents and mental health professionals will convene on the steps of the State Capitol to demand increased mental health resources for California’ public schools and support proposed legislation from Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia calling for greater mental health resources. Following the rally, parents will meet with state lawmakers to ask for support.
