Details on the Terrifying Alaska Airlines Flight with ABC's ALex Stone

ABC's Alex Stone

Alaska Airlines flight 1282 was nearly full with 171 passengers onboard – but had a few open seats, including next to the area that ripped open in flight on Friday night. Had somebody been sitting there they likely would have been sucked out. The Boeing 737-Max 9 was at 16,000 feet when there was a loud bang and then a rush of air as things, including cell phones flew out of the plane. It was so violent that the cockpit door burst open and pilots used oxygen masks while trying to communicate with air traffic control. Over the weekend two iPhones, one still on with a screen set to baggage claim info, were found in Oregon. The door plug that came out has also been found by a Portland school teacher, who found it in her backyard. Today, all 737-Max 9 aircraft are grounded as the FAA figures out what needs to be inspected. Over the weekend Alaska had said it inspected some aircraft and put them back into service but that was too soon and now Alaska and United Airlines have them grounded. 171 Max-9 aircraft globally are impacted by the grounding order.
