This morning, the House of Representatives passed legislation that seeks to ban the popular social media app TikTok, over concerns the Chinese government could use it to access American users’ data. The bill would give TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, six months to divest from the app. If not, the legislation would penalize app stores, such as Google’s Play Store and Apple’s App Store, from hosting TikTok. The final vote was 352-65, but it’s unclear if it will be welcomed by the same level of support in the Senate, where Majority Leader Chuck Schumer hasn't committed to putting it on the floor -- although President Biden has said if it lands on his desk, he will sign it.
