America at the Crossroads: The Guitar and a Changing Nation

Discover the evolution of the guitar as the United States’ most popular instrument and its relationship to historical events and cultural moments over the centuries in “America at the Crossroads,” a traveling exhibition from the National Guitar Museum. A bonus section in the California Museum’s presentation spotlights Golden State musicians and manufacturers who made their mark globally.
Featuring:
- A 40-instrument display on the guitar’s evolution through different historical eras
- Original guitars played by Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, John Lee Hooker, Eddie Van Halen and Los Tigres del Norte
- Displays highlighting California guitar makers Fender Musical Instruments Corporation, Taylor Guitars, Alembic, and Santa Cruz Guitar Company
Join the California Museum on Saturday, June 15, 2024 for "Meeting of the Music," a celebration of California guitar history and culture in honor of our newest exhibit, "America at the Crossroads: The Guitar and a Changing Nation" (opens May 24). Bring your dad, a grad, or a music lover in your life and relax into Father's Day weekend with live music, beer, guitar-themed crafts, and a presentation by Santa Cruz Guitar Company.

- Beer for purchase (discounted for Museum members!)
- Sweet treats from Ronnie's Italian Ice and Cups & Straws for purchase
- Guitar-themed crafts, including make-your-own guitar picks and kids' coloring sheets. Bring a 1"x1" printed photo of someone or something you love and customize a guitar pick with your photo - see the picture below for examples!

- Docent-led tours of "America at the Crossroads"
Tickets: In celebration of Father’s Day, we’re offering $5 reduced admission for guests 13+ and free admission for members and kids 12 and under. Admission provides access to the event and the museum galleries. Advance registration recommended.
