Sacto Retired Gen and the 80th Anniversary of D-Day in Normandy

Listen: Daniel P. Woodward, Commissioner of the American Battle Monuments Commission and retired U.S. Air Force Brigadier General who resides in Sacramento.

June 6, 2024, will mark the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings along the Normandy coast during World War II. This event, which ultimately led to the liberation of Europe, will be commemorated at Normandy American Cemetery.

Listen:  Daniel P. Woodward, commissioner of the American Battle Monuments Commission and retired U.S. Air Force brigadier general who resides in Sacramento discussing how AMBC will honor the memories of 2,501 U.S. soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice that day and reflect on the special significance this milestone holds for many WW2 veterans who may not be with us to witness the next anniversary.

The sole federal agency tasked with honoring the service and sacrifices of those who gave their all that day is the American Battle Monuments Commission. The Normandy American Cemetery, a WWII cemetery serves as the final resting place for 343 brave Californians who served in World War II.
