NATION’S SECOND LARGEST SCHOOL DISTRICT NOW BANNING CELL PHONES
ALEX STONE, ABC NEWS CORRESPONDENT, LOS ANGELES
A growing number of school districts and states are coming up with rules and laws banning cell phones during the school day. Los Angeles Unified Schools, the second largest district in the country with around 785 schools and nearly 500,000 students is now implementing its cell phone ban. The idea is to improve student engagement in the classroom, boost mental health, and to reduce bullying. The rule says cell phones have to be off and put away during school hours – including lunch. Some schools will lock them up in bags while others will simply order them put away. It comes as California and other states are getting ready to implement statewide cell phone bans on campuses.
