Coinciding with National Volunteer Month,

Many Local Museums Express Need for Volunteers &

Call Out for Community Support

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (April 17, 2025) – Coinciding with National Volunteer Month in April, many Sacramento area museums rely on volunteer service and are calling out for volunteers. The benefits of participating as a volunteer at a local museum go far beyond community service. Being a volunteer also provides an opportunity to meet new people from all over the world, connect with a community of shared interests, expand subject matter knowledge, and often receive complimentary admission and/or attendance at special activations.

Some of the local museums expressing the need for volunteers include the following:

  • California Automobile Museum is looking for volunteers to help support a variety of projects that will enhance the visitor experience. In particular, the museum is looking for builders, handymen, painters, artists and/or historians interested in working to help create and build exhibit galleries. In addition, the museum is hoping for volunteers to support rental events (mostly weekends and evenings) plus their popular story time program. For more, please visit www.calautomuseum.org.
  •
  • California Museum is calling out for more volunteers to help bring California’s rich history, arts, and cultural diversity to life for over 100,000 visitors each year. With roles ranging from field trip classroom presenters to event assistants, all positions include perks like a museum membership with reciprocal admission at other institutions, store discounts, invitations to volunteer events and more. No experience is necessary and all positions include in-depth training. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old, and background checks are required. To learn more about volunteer opportunities or to apply, please visit californiamuseum.org/volunteer. For questions, contact the Volunteer Coordinator at 916-653-8099 or volunteer@californiamuseum.org.

  • Sacramento Children’s Museum is looking for volunteers to assist with museum activities and events on the weekends. Volunteers must be 14 years old or older.
