CITY OF SACRAMENTO AND UNITED WAY LAUNCH
FOSTER YOUTH GUARANTEED INCOME PROGRAM
Former and current foster youth living in Sacramento County may be eligible to receive $900 per month for up to two years through the new Foster Youth Guaranteed Income Program announced by the City of Sacramento and United Way California Capital Region. The $8 million program is funded by the City of Sacramento, paid for by Measure L: Sacramento’s Children’s Fund, and implemented by United Way California Capital Region to support former foster youth as they transition into stability and independence.
Applications are open Oct. 1-31, and applicants are encouraged to begin the process early. Those eligible will be selected by lottery and will be informed by the first week of November. United Way California Capital Region will administer the Foster Youth Guaranteed Income program, bringing together the local United Way’s experience working with foster youth with its expertise in guaranteed income. The nonprofit has been supporting foster youth for more than two decades and launched the first Guaranteed Income program of its kind in the California Capital Region in July 2021, following that up with additional rounds of funding in partnership with the City of Sacramento, County of Sacramento, UC Davis, Sacramento State and local nonprofits.
