- California has launched a digital COVID-19 vaccination card. Vaccinated residents can put their information into the California Department of Public Health's website and through the state vaccination registry get an electronic copy to carry on their phone. It also includes a QR code for businesses that require vaccinations to scan to verify that person's vaccination status.
- California's drought conditions are making the fight for survival even tougher for endangered fish in local waterways. Elevated water temperatures, low water and poor conditions in Central Valley Rivers have the California Department of Fish and Wildlife actively relocating vulnerable fish populations to cooler conditions.
- The mayors of Los Angeles, Sacramento, Denver and eight other cities have organized a national committee to press for national reparations for African-Americans. The announcement this past weekend came as Juneteenth was recognized as a federal holiday, commemorating the end of slavery in the United States.
- The Sacramento Valley's dynamic weather trends will continue this week. The National Weather Service is describing the upcoming week as a "temperature roller-coaster" on social media. As the region comes off triple digit temperatures over the weekend, highs will start dropping into the mid-80's by Wednesday. However, the Weather Service expects temperatures to climb back well into triple digits by Friday and into the weekend, topping out as high as 110.
