The KFBK Morning News Show Recap - Thursday July 15th

Lead Stories:

  1. A Sacramento judge is rejecting a request to stop California's new credit system for good behavior in state prisons. The new rules grant inmates convicted of violent crimes one day of good conduct credit for every two days served, before they earned one day of credit for every four days.
  2. Three dozen fires are burning on the West Coast this morning. CAL FIRE says the Dixie Fire is mostly burning in Plumas County, and burning away from any populated areas in neighboring Butte County. The blaze has burned through about 12-hundred acres and as of this morning the fire is zero-percent contained. Meanwhile headway is being made on the massive Beckwourth Complex Fire...The US Forest Service says the blaze is now 73-percent contained. The blaze has consumed more than 95-thousand acres in the Plumas National Forest.
  3. State officials confirm that two out of every three Californians will qualify for the Golden State Stimulus checks. Taxpayers who make up to $75,000 annually will get a stimulus check of $600, while families with children will receive an additional $500. Residents must have filed their 2020 tax returns and have lived in California for more than half of the tax year in order to qualify.
  4. Highway officials say a number of factors could contribute to more vehicles being on Sacramento roads. One is students returning to in-person instruction at schools. Another is companies requiring employees to return to offices. Then, there are the Bay Area transplants to the region. Over ten thousand new residents have put down roots in Elk Grove, Woodland, Folsom, and greater El Dorado County. Many work remotely, but if that changes, those super commuters between Sac and the Bay Area could make for some lengthy traffic jams.
