The health order will remain in effect until the case rate falls significantly. The mandate comes amid a rise in positivity rates across California.
- California State University will soon be requiring students, staff and faculty to be vaccinated against COVID-19. Students and employees would have until September 30th to get their shots if they want to be on campus. The policy allows them to seek medical and religious exemptions.
- A statewide Flex Alert takes effect this afternoon due to the sweltering heat. The California Independent System Operator issued the alert from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Folks are urged to limit their power usage during that time. The Flex Alert is in response to soaring temperatures and the growing number of wildfires in the state.
- Governor Gavin Newsom is facing political heat after a photo surfaced of his son sitting indoors and maskless at a summer camp. The other kids in the photo also had their faces uncovered, according to "The Sacramento Bee." The photo has created political pushback from parents who are opposed to a state mandate that requires masks in public schools. "The Bee" is also reporting that Newsom has pulled his children out of the summer camp.
