Leads:
- Thousands of protesters converged on the State Capitol in Sacramento Monday over the Governor's mandatory vaccination order. Earlier this month, Governor Gavin Newsom issued a COVID-19 vaccine mandate for all K-thru-12 students beginning next year.
- California is marking a national milestone in the fight against coronavirus. It's now the only state to reach a moderate rate of transmission. Out of four levels, that's the second lowest. The CDC shows seven states are one step above at substantial. Those are: Hawaii, Connecticut, Louisiana, Florida, Mississippi, Georgia and Illinois, along with D.C. Every other state remains in the high level, with most seeing cases rise over the past week.
- Never before have 100 cargo ships been anchored and waiting off the coast of Southern California. That new record hit on Monday Beating the last record set of 97 ships in September. And 45 more cargo ships are set to arrive over the next three days. The ports report regular and contingency anchorages are full. There's no more room. Before the COVID supply crunch issues -- only an average of 17 ships would normally be anchored waiting to come in.
- It had been nearly seven months with no measurable rain in the City of Trees, 18 days longer than the 194-day record set in 1880. On Sunday, one-one-hundredth of an inch of rain fell on downtown Sacramento. Other areas in the region saw a bit more, but regardless, the streak has been snapped. Forecasters expect heavier rain is on its way to Northern California, likely to come Tuesday night. Additionally, there are chances of rain each day through at least Sunday, and into next week.
