Sheriff Jones Response To Allegations By State Auditor

Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones iis demanding that the California State Auditor issue a retraction of recent allegations that the sheriff violated the law.

Jones is responding to a letter written in December by auditor Elaine Howle to the Sacramento County District Attorney, calling for an investigation into the sheriff's premature release of an audit on his gun permit process. That letter was sent to KFBK last week by state Assemblyman Kevin McCarty.

Jones writes in his letter to Howle that he believes she is going out her way to "widely and publicly accuse (him) of criminal activity." He warns that if he does not receive written acknowledgment by February 1st, he will "follow up with whatever means (he) has at (his) disposal" to repair the damage to his reputation.

The auditor has not responded yet to a request for comment.
