The Homelessness, Drug Addiction & Theft Reduction Act - Information

The Homelessness, Drug Addiction and Theft Reduction Act

Volunteers are working diligently to acquire sufficient signatures to put this matter on the November ballot this year. This document identifies locations where registered voters can sign the critical petitions at several locations across the region this Saturday, February 10th.

Clarification as to the need for this course of action:

  • Retail and cargo theft have skyrocketed in California since the passage of Proposition 47 in 2014.
  • Drug addiction and homelessness have become a humanitarian crisis in that same timeframe.
  • The problem was created by a public vote, and thereby cannot be fixed by legislative or executive branch action; it must be resolved by the voters.

The Solution:

The Homelessness, Drug Addiction and Theft Reduction Act will:

  • Hold repeat thieves accountable with felony prosecution.
  • Allow treatment-mandated felony prosecution for 3rd time hard drug convictions.
  • Tackle the fentanyl crisis by going after fentanyl drug dealers.

Why is there hope for this effort?

  • High voter support has been shown in multiple reliable polls.
  • Seventy percent support based upon ballot label alone.
  • Eighty-nine percent support changes to Proposition 47 to hold repeat offenders accountable.
  • A whopping ninety-four percent support stronger penalties for fentanyl crimes.

Cost to qualify this initiative: $7-8 million
